IIM Bangalore Dominates Air India’s SOAR Competition: Here’s How

In the first edition of “SOAR” (Spirit of Aviation Reimagined), Air India’s prestigious nationwide B-school competition, Team Horizon from IIM Bangalore clinched the National Champion title. The competition saw participation from 27 premier business schools, with teams showcasing their prowess in addressing real-world challenges in the aviation industry.

Top Honors: Team Horizon of IIM Bangalore secured the top honors as the National Champion. They were closely followed by Team JMH from IMT Ghaziabad, who claimed the 1st Runners-Up position. In a unique achievement, the 2nd Runners-Up title was jointly awarded to Team Republic of Restless (IIM Shillong) and Team Horizon (IIFT).

Air India’s Campus Outreach Initiative: SOAR is a groundbreaking student interactive program in the aviation industry, representing Air India’s commitment to engage with young talent. The initiative seeks to build a robust leadership pipeline for the future while providing students with insights into Air India’s transformative journey and inspiring them to join the new Air India.

Recruitment and Talent Development: Air India, as part of its Vihaan.AI transformation journey, aims to enhance its human resources through merit-driven recruitment programs. The airline’s strategic efforts to strengthen its workforce have been met with a remarkable response from top educational institutions. This includes a significant influx of over 25,000 applicants within just a week for management post-graduate positions.

Dr. Suresh Dutt Tripathi on SOAR: Dr. Suresh Dutt Tripathi, Chief Human Resources Officer at Air India, highlighted that the SOAR initiative transcends traditional recruitment drives. It serves as an invitation to bright young minds to embark on a journey of innovation and leadership in the aviation sector. SOAR is a platform that benefits the industry, academia, and students simultaneously.

SOAR Journey: Since its launch in August 2023, SOAR received an overwhelming response with more than 7,100 registrations from B-schools nationwide. The shortlisted 12 final teams, each comprising three members, engaged in an intensive competition. They tackled real-world aviation challenges ranging from marketing to baggage coordination, technology, and cultural issues.

Rewarding Excellence: The winners at the grand finale were chosen by a high-level jury consisting of senior Air India executives. Each winning team received cash awards, round-trip flight tickets, and Taj Stay vouchers for each member, offering well-deserved recognition and rewards for their innovative solutions.
